Do I Qualify?
Any teacher who currently possesses a Master's Degree, a Master's +16, or a Master's +32 may apply to the Center for Teaching Excellence to take one of the 18-credit hour programs.
What is the process to receive the Advanced Studies Certification (ASC)?
The process for receiving the ASC is simple. After receiving your master’s degree, you must complete 2 (two) 18-credit hour programs offered by the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) or RPDP. Once the MA+32 status has been attained, 1 (one) 18-credit hour program is required through the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE).
Important Salary Information
To be eligible to increase your salary and earn the additional $3000.00 per year on the additional column negotiated by CCEA, teachers must successfully complete three 18-credit programs of study that have been approved by CCSD.
The first two programs can be taken through the CTE or the RPDP. The third and last program must be completed through CTE.
Teachers not wanting to advance to the additional column by taking programs of study may still earn a Masters + 32. However, if they elect that route, there are NO steps beyond Masters + 32.
After the October 1, 2007 lock-in date, it is very important that teachers realize that in order to advance to the new step, credits must be accrued through programs. If you are at Masters by October, you must take three programs; if you are at Masters + 16, you must take two programs, and if you are at Masters + 32 by October, you must take a final program which is offered through the Center for Teaching Excellence.
Our advice to you is to get your Master’s degree as soon as possible, then begin to enroll in any of the approved 18 credit programs through the CTE or RPDP.
